Potty Training Glossary
- Anal fissure
- A smll shadow tear in the skin of the anus, usually caused by passing a hard bowel movement. It can be very painful and difficult to heal because of its location.
- Anus
- The outlet of the rectum lying between the folds of the buttocks.
- Constipation
- Hard or dry bowel movements. Infrequent or irregular soft bowel movements are normal and are not signs of constipation.
- Enuresis
- The involuntary passing of urine.
- Encopresis
- The involuntary passing of bowel movement.
- Fiber
- The components of plants that cannot be digested and pass through the intestine as part of a bowel movement. Insoluble fiber from the outside layer of wheat and other grains is the most helpful fiber for adding bulk.
- Regression
- The normal "going backwards" movement of a young child's development.
- Temperament
- The inborn behavioural style that influences the way a child interacts with caregivers and the environment.
